Practical info

Getting around

Ferrol is the district's transport hub. Trains, buses and the main roads to the other municipalities all start there.

Train

The A Coruña–Ferrol commuter line follows the estuary with stops at Pontedeume, Cabanas, Fene and Neda, among others. It is a convenient option for the southern axis of the district.

Medium-distance trains also serve Ferrol, with connections towards Lugo and Ourense.

Bus

Ferrol bus station concentrates the interurban routes. Most municipalities can be reached from there, though frequencies vary greatly between weekdays and weekends.

For the Ortegal municipalities, check timetables in advance: some routes run only a few times a day.

Car

The AP-9 links Ferrol with A Coruña and the districts to the south. The AG-64 heads towards As Pontes and Vilalba. The N-651 follows the estuary to Pontedeume.

There is no motorway to the north coast (Cedeira, Cariño, Ortigueira): roads are slow and winding. Allow generous times.

Airport

A Coruña airport (Alvedro) is about 50 km from Ferrol. Santiago airport is about 100 km away, with more connections.
