Ferrolterra
The southern shore of the Ferrol estuary and the open coast down to the mouth of the Eume. A naval city, working ports, surf beaches and short green valleys inland.
Eleven municipalities around an estuary that is at once a naval port, a shipyard and an everyday landscape. Ferrol and Narón hold most of the population; further north, Valdoviño and Cedeira open the coast to the Atlantic swell.
Eume
The Eume valley and its ancient woodland, between the Ares estuary and the inland hills. Few people, deep shade and Romanesque heritage surviving among the trees.
Six municipalities reading the river from top to bottom: As Pontes and Monfero upstream, A Capela and Vilarmaior in the middle, Cabanas and Pontedeume at the mouth. The Fragas do Eume are the axis, but the valley is also chestnut trees, mills and manor houses.
Ortegal
The far north: Estaca de Bares, Cabo Ortegal and the Capelada range. Cliffs that fall a thousand metres to the sea, small harbours and an estuary that looks like a lake.
Four municipalities on a small scale with enormous horizons. Mañón holds Estaca de Bares and the port of Bares; Cariño, Cabo Ortegal and Herbeira; Ortigueira, the estuary and its festival; Cerdido, the farming interior linking valley and coast.
